RISE

This image is now available as a full size Geclee' print on canvas. These amazingly accurate reproductions may also be purchased in smaller sizes; printed on either artist canvas or archival paper.
No single, nonobjective, contemporary painting done by me in the last four years has received more positive comment or acclaim than "Rise". It is painted in acrylics on thin wood veiner. I have tried to duplicate the energy and feel of this several times since, but as yet, this one stands alone. The painting was done in three sessions and came together with an uncommon confidence. As the name implies, the theme is redemption, resurrection and eternal life.
"Rise" was shown for the first time in fall of 2005. The lady who now owns this piece, first viewed it as part of an exhibit in the lobby of Dakota Lofts, here in Houston, on Christmas Eve. She wanted the painting, but decided to wait. It was later under a purchase contract along with another painting, for almost a year . The initial buyer decided to release it and purchase only one of the two paintings he had selected. The same week it became available again the painting was exhibited. It's current owner came to the show, saw it and purchased "Rise" along with another large canvas.

PASSION'S END

DETAIL FROM "PASSION'S END"

LEAVES AND STEMS

This was an attempt at an earth tone pallet- sans red. eventually some stronger hues found their way into the composition in spite of my efforts. Also painted in late 06-2007, this painting is now part of a private collection.

TRANSITIONS

In late summer of 2006 I moved my studio from McKee to Palmer Street. A good friend and amazing designer/sculptor, John Knott, afforded me some space in his warehouse for a couple of commissioned projects. During that time I painted several pieces that were both different from what I had been doing and from each other. These experiments with form, color application and pallet have influenced all of my work since. What I enjoyed about this one was the drafted and more monochromatic lower portion merging with the upper bands and shapes.
As yet I have not returned to this particular scheme, though I have plans for a series along these lines in the future. This piece was sold last year after it's exhibition at Mind Puddles Gallery

PAIR OF POTS SERIES

This painting was th first of the "Patio Pots". Painted in April of 2008, it was inspired by the many potted and bedding plants in the court yard of my studio as well as the porch/loading dock of a warehouse converted to lofts across the street from the lofts where I live.

PATIO PLANTS #4

A PAIR OF POTTED PLANTS

This piece is one of a new series begun in April of 2008. These paintings are smaller than I have typically worked; 26 X 30 inches.

PETAL WING

This little gem ( 22 X 26") was finished on May 29, 2008. It is a fusion of forms and techniques from the "Jump Series" and the "Patio Pots Series". Work in these series are in acrylic, on board and measure either 26 X 30 or 22 X 26 inches.
I consider these studies as working up to larger figurative pieces I hope to be working on this fall. This is the first time in years I've been able to concentrate on combining the techniques I've learned from countless experiments.
