No single, nonobjective, contemporary painting done by me in the last four years has received more positive comment or acclaim than "Rise". It is painted in acrylics on thin wood veiner. I have tried to duplicate the energy and feel of this several times since, but as yet, this one stands alone. The painting was done in three sessions and came together with an uncommon confidence. As the name implies, the theme is redemption, resurrection and eternal life.
"Rise" was shown for the first time in fall of 2005. The lady who now owns this piece, first viewed it as part of an exhibit in the lobby of Dakota Lofts, here in Houston, on Christmas Eve. She wanted the painting, but decided to wait. It was later under a purchase contract along with another painting, for almost a year . The initial buyer decided to release it and purchase only one of the two paintings he had selected. The same week it became available again the painting was exhibited. It's current owner came to the show, saw it and purchased "Rise" along with another large canvas.
